Self –study skills
- Self-study book (SSBK):
- Pupils do pre-lesson preparation, such as collecting information, dictionary skills, in-class note-taking, etc.
- Pupils are also required to do some higher-order thinking tasks and extended learning tasks, such as sentence making, speaking practice, etc. as further consolidation.
-Pupils use graphic organizers to enhance their thinking skills. - Study skills such as note-taking, predicting in listening tasks, summarizing will be taught throughout the school year.
- Online dictionary platforms are provided for pupils’ self-learning and
pupils are taught to use the dictionary as their learning tool. An online learning platform ‘Google classroom’ is used to facilitate students’ learning. - Some good websites and learning platforms are provided for self-learning, such as “Pearson learning platform”, “Starfall”,
and “Creative English Scheme”. - E-reading platforms (i.e. EPIC): Pupils are assigned e-readers for home reading regularly.
- Multi-learning tasks are adopted to motivate pupils’ learning.
Assessment for learning
- Formative assessment is conducted to assess pupils’ learning progress.
- Dictations are conducted regularly.
- Listening exercises allow pupils to practise their listening skills regularly.
- P.1-3 PLP-R Levelling: Pupils’ reading abilities can be assessed regularly.
- P.1-3 PLPR: High frequency words assessment is conducted to assess pupils’ vocabulary learning progress regularly.
- Teachers’ observation: Teachers mark records and give verbal or non-verbal feedback during lessons.
- Teachers mark pupils’ homework with constructive written feedback. Stamps or stickers are given for encouraging pupils.
- Post-assessment worksheets are designed to consolidate pupils’ learning after assessment.
Develop the ability of self - reflection
- P.1-6 Multi-learning tasks allow pupils to set goals, plan, learn, show and reflect in their learning progress.
- Self and peer assessment for writing is conducted.
Others
- Drama-in-Education programme is implemented in GNET’s lessons.
- Teachers incorporate interactive e-learning activities in lessons (i.e. Classkick, Kahoot, Quizizz, etc.) for learning and consolidation.
- Differentiated instruction is conducted to cater for individual differences.
- Gifted education curriculum is implemented to foster pupils’ critical thinking and creativity (i.e. Class 4A, 5A, 6A).
- Pupils are encouraged to join the Speech Festival and the talent shows.
- In-school or inter-school competitions are held such as writings, calligraphy, poem or prose recitation, etc.
- NETs help to promote English-speaking environment through English activities on occasional special days.
- Pupils’ good works are displayed on the school boards. Some of them are posted on the school website.
- Speaking classes are held to faciliate pupils’ speaking skills.
